A to Z News - Introducing DualWave FX by Zimmer MedizinSystems

Zimmer MedizinSystems is proud to introduce DualWave FX, a focused extracorporeal shockwave system designed to deliver concentrated mechanical energy to a defined focal point within musculoskeletal tissue. Intended for use by trained healthcare professionals across physical medicine, rehabilitative, and other clinical settings, DualWave FX supports targeted application where depth and anatomical specificity are clinically important.

Building on Zimmer MedizinSystems’ long-standing radial pulse shockwave offerings, DualWave FX  introduces focused piezoelectric technology that concentrates energy at a selected depth rather than dispersing it broadly across the surface—supporting repeatable application in specific anatomical regions.

DualWave FX Large & Small Handpieces

One System. Two Handpieces. No Workflow Disruption.

DualWave FX enhances efficient clinical workflow through its dual-handpiece configuration. Two handpieces can remain connected to the system simultaneously, removing the need to disconnect and reconnect components during treatment sessions.

The system includes a large handpiece for broader focus applications and a small handpiece for precision-focused treatment. This flexibility enables streamlined treatment delivery and reduces the need for handpiece swapping—an advantage over systems that rely on a single control input.

Adjustable Focal Depth in Practice

A defining feature of DualWave FX is its adjustable focal depth, achieved through interchangeable gel pads (also referred to as standoff pads). By selecting different pad thicknesses, clinicians can shift the focal point of mechanical energy more superficially or deeper into tissue—without requiring a different handpiece or reconfiguring hardware.

While some focused shockwave systems offer only limited depth variation through fixed standoffs or hardware modifications, DualWave FX allows depth selection to be updated intuitively in seconds. This makes focal depth control practical during real-world treatment sessions, supporting efficient transitions across anatomical targets.

With seven available gel pad options, DualWave FX enables clinicians to tailor treatment depth based on clinical needs while maintaining consistent energy delivery.

This adaptability extends use across a wide range of musculoskeletal indications commonly addressed in rehabilitative care and athletic recovery protocols, where tissue depth and functional demands can differ significantly.

Focused vs. Radial Shockwave Therapy: Why Depth Control Matters

Radial Shockwave

  • Energy disperses broadly across the surface
  • Highest intensity at the applicator, decreasing with depth
  • Commonly used for generalized tissue applications

Focused Shockwave

  • Energy concentrates at a defined focal point
  • Enables delivery at a selected depth within tissue
  • Designed for targeted, region-specific application

Why Adjustable Depth Matters

  • Different structures require different focal depths
  • Depth selection improves adaptability across clinical targets
  • Quick adjustment supports efficient workflow during treatment

DualWave FX Advantage

Adjust focal depth in seconds with interchangeable gel pads—and keep two handpieces connected for seamless transitions during treatment.

Designed for Clinical Precision

DualWave FX operates across a frequency range of 1–12 Hz, supporting consistent, depth-selectable energy delivery aligned with clinical needs.

By combining focused piezoelectric technology, dual-handpiece capability, and efficient focal depth adjustment through interchangeable gel pads, DualWave FX delivers a system-level solution that prioritizes precision, adaptability, and workflow efficiency.
